A Sincere Poem Of Apathy
83
I have felt your apathy and no longer care!
Apathy
I joined a world wide group today,
it really fills a niche.
It bothers us not if you happen to be,
very poor or rich.
It’s sweeping across the world,
from industrial nation to nation.
It will help to address and suppress,
the silly need for motivation.
Forget the states of the United States,
and join the state of indifference.
Let’s heed the call, make some dough,
and sit on the proverbial fence.
Please join us or not, but soon you’ll see,
it’s really quite the fashion.
You’ll lose your blues; forget the news,
and all of your compassion.
As you will learn,
I’m only deeply concerned with my own concern.
The causes of great value,
are what I’m more inclined to spurn.
We seldom
get involved with things that really matter.
When it gets right down to it,
it only makes us sadder.
Oh, we’ll save a whale or send ten bucks,
to the latest disaster fund.
But if it turns out, your cause has no clout,
we will ask for a substantial refund.
We aren’t concerned,
about the clothes you wear.
We quit holding meetings,
because we’re never there.
I may, to you, seem silly,
but I’m sure you’ll see you’re wrong.
I’ll cook some s’mores and open doors,
even sing a protest song.
For ongoing suffering, I have no emotion,
no devotion, zest, or zeal.
I have no interest regarding matters,
of general importance or appeal.
Marcus Aurelius-Stoic Emperor
There is just so much,
over which to be upset and mope.
The stimuli are too intense,
or too complicated for which to cope.
We have no need for love, sympathy,
and certainly no remorse,
Turn your eyes from injustice,
and leave events to take their own silly course.
I like to seem, but will never seek,
attributes like being heroic.
Giving a flip is such a trip,
no; I’m really quite the stoic.
There will be blokes and many folks,
that try to make us more aware.
There are too many causes to give us pauses.
We simply do not care.
Through the daily grind, I find,
I can close my mind.
It’s really a panacea.
So let’s all get together,
or maybe not,
and form the United States of Apatheia.
~Micky Dee~

Mick, you had me real curious when I saw the title come through email. Unfortunately, it is not only the United States of Apathia. It is the overwhelming position of the so-called "Hollywood Elite." Those who drop the bucks for the cameras and the media but in actuality, they could care less. Apathy. Procrastination. Complacency. Three very powerful tools of Satan and you caught all three in this one Hub.
Mick, how did you come to get into the poetry angle of things? You do it so well.
Mickey Dee - be careful plugging your mind into the great interweb you'll turn cyborg!! Just kidding, I think there's no risk cos of the amount of fresh you must imbibe pedalling along the roads of America plus the evident common sense of this poem. The pictures have me intrigued: got the good Samaritan and the next two but not sure of the last three. Thanks for the poem you're making me think I should have a go at rhyming....
Very nice Mickey and thanks for all the lovely comments on my poems and essays. You hit it right on the nail and yet
I'm glad to see the outpouring of support for Haiti.
oh Micky, so much pain sufferings put people into apathy, but I dont really understand life is still beautiful, some people have apathy because of selfishness too, and we can only know what we miss if we cant have them already,
Thanks for the sarcasm (just kidding), your writing really reflects you as caring man, Maita
Mickey Dee, Baby, how do you manage to (paint in words) and point at our dirty little secret simultaneously as we are inflicting money to a tragedy. Do the math before you make a moral decision. LOL
Micky-
This is a serious catalyst to make each one of us do a 'self -check'.Yes horrible things are happening on a daily basis-it can be an ugly world-but there are good people too,as no doubt you will agree.
Perhaps if some of these good people were our leaders-but then good people rarely seek power,do they?
Your writing 'blows my mind'- vinegar may not be as sweet as candy-but it is a great cleanser:)
Thanks Micky Dee for writing a realistic hub in such a poetic and artistic style. This shows your great wit and I admire it.
well done enjoyed reading this so much
veery nice hub.... i like poems
"Giving a flip is such a trip," loooooooove it!
nice hub; love the pictures!
My first hub of yours and I find it intense but funny, too. Good one!
Great hub, superb pictures and brilliant ending. Thank you
Hmmm, your hub gives me pause. I must think. Thanks for sharing...
callmefoxxy, my pen is a mighty sword!
So true it made me laugh! Though I do have an odd sense of humour. Really enjoyed that piece of home-truth. Thank you
Thinsulation Would Solve It All.
With just a little less effort,
all who hunger will become dust,
dissipating in the winds of despair.
No more wide eyed, bloated bellies,
begging sustenance from Sudan,
nor ghetto children suckling
government cheese.
No panhandlers begging change,
their cardboard box mansions,
rendered into dumpster mulch.
The well-off and middle class
can gnaw the bones of fatted calves,
without guilt for lesser beings.
The red kettles of
salvation's armies will become
flea market collectibles,
perfect for geraniums
to grace beach cottages.
Starvation will have
nothing to feed on.
The world will grow plump
and jolly as the earth fills
with the thin and emaciated.
Simply stop giving.
Just say No to the Po'
and the cries will fall silent.
Bleeding hearts will heal,
and poverty will vanish.
It's easy enough to do,
So many already have,
Wanna start a club?
A Pathetic club for
the apathetic.

love the play on words.
What actually makes a human being unhappy?
The inability to actualize his existence with love, empathy and relatedness with other human beings. It is love, brotherhood and fellowship that weaves the perfect fabric of humanity together...And Love needs a lot of labour..But our civilization needs machines and want us to tend these machines...If we tend cattle or farm animals..we may even love them and relate with them..but we cannot truly love machines..since we use machines...and machines use our labour in return...but our society is so busy producing and selling us these machines..that we seem to fail to get any clear idea of ourselves..as humans rooted to nature..Since birth our mechanization by our civilization begins and we simply conform and obey rules..
And civilization is simply the problem with no solution.Since we employed civilization to address the rest of our problems...civilization itself has not any solution..and apathy ..indifference is what it produces..most inevitably and quite sadly.
Apathy is when love is not there to make you work at it and work for it.
The machine works and you are simply wrapped in apathy.
Very sad but true.
Many believe becoming apathetic
Is the panacea for what they view as pathetic.
"What can I do about all of them?" they claim
As their inertia adds to our bucket of the maim.
I've heard sarcasm labeled as the lowest form of humor. You have proven here it can also be the height of awareness! Hats off to you dear Sir. An exceptional piece deserving the highest honor in our history books
most do not know what they need to care about! sad but true! Sometimes I want to paint the town red and blue then hang bones on the sides of buildings, just to see if they notice! If I get started I have a hard time stopping so i will not get started! I love you Micky Dee! ~aloha nui loa~
voted up many thumbs... ~aloha nui~
Does apathy mean you don't care? LOL You know me............could not resist. Great write, maybe this will get people to care once they look up this word. :0)
Great message Micky and as always written in that inimitable style of yours.
I think sadly more and more people are becoming increasingly indifferent these days. Maybe it's because they feel so powerless to do anything to make a real difference or most likely they really just don't care and it's all about looking number one ultimately.
Cheers for sharing these thoughts Micky.
Meaningful poem! Voted awesome!
Sounds to me like a scathing denouncement of greedy, indifferent modern societies. I've heard this argument before, but never with such vivid words and a clever rhyme scheme. Nice work.
WE sure could use a little more Apathy in the world today. Thanks, Love and Peace :)
You describe Apathy so well! Articulate and Engaging your poem Thank you I enjoyed !
Thanks my friend. Take care!
My fellow scribe yeah there are many apathetic citizens in our world, wealth and ignorance, yet there are many great knights who help the poor and care. Robin Hood's there are one just has to look in the forest amongst the many dead trees. Thank you for bringing us closer to the light.
Oh, Micky, we can get so disheartened when we evaluate the doings of the Ewings-UP-there. I’ve decided not to trust them, but to take care of the people in my personal sphere as best as I can. I am not even able to comply with all their needs. Too many are jobless, facing financial crisis... I believe severe cuttings of salaries paid to those Ewings are absolutely essential. They don’t deserve all that money, and they don’t need it. They can live on a much lower level. They are fat parasites..... Now let me stop before I rant until the son comes up. Take care, dear Micky!
Great poem I like your selection of images too :)
I'm glad i'm too busy to join that state and to spend so much skill and time writing this poem proves you are not in it either. Cheers buddy. Another great concept.
Now seriously-please help Haiti!
Please support and expedite Haitian recovery!
