Don't Follow Me
62
Don't Follow Me
If others suffer and you refuse to see,
Don't follow me.
If you're comfy and full of glee,
Don't follow me.
.
If you can't turn off your TV,
If you need a fix from your PC,
If you're not yearning to be free,
Don't follow me.
.
If you concern yourself with a pimple,
Stay inside your temple,
Don't follow me,
You're far too simple.
.
If your only concerns,
Are for your welfare,
Stay away,
You foul my air.
.
If you need distractions,
For your football head,
I'm pretty sure,
Your head is dead.
.
If you turn your back,
As the government sells us crack,
Don't follow me,
You're way too whack.
.
If "divide & conquer",
Doesn't bother you,
You're supporting those,
Who turn the screw.
.
If racial slurs,
Don't bother you,
You're a fascist,
I want no part of you.
.
If you can't look me in the eye,
And see the tears and why I cry,
Stay in your vehicle,
Drive on by.
.
If life is slavery,
To Mammon and a check,
Just drive by the wreck,
Pretend you care as you rubberneck.
.
If freedom of speech,
Is to be continually denied,
Then I would rather,
Get off this asinine ride.
.
If all you do is sit and gawk,
As humans are beaten till they can't walk,
Stay away from me,
With your empty talk.
.
All good things come to those who wait?
If you're too timid to participate,
Then you must be satisfied,
With the lies on your plate.
.
Turn away. Act as though you do not see.
Read a newspaper. Turn on the TV.
Bury your head in this political sand.
Leave me be.
Don't follow me.
.
.
~Micky Dee~

I understand and empathize with your message, but am a little afraid to follow you after that. I would however like to read some of your hubs, but am not sure how to do that without following. Any suggestions?
ok, nevermind. I figured it out. I look forward to reading your hubs.
Unnerstan' Mic, Semper Fi to ya.
Hey Mickey. It aint wrong to have strong feelings about things. People can chose to be zombies and always appear to be politically correct - Yeh .. and they don't "live" anymore. If you are running a business on this page I could understand the need to not have real opinions and become a mindless dimple but I think you are greater than that and I appreciate your opinions. What people think about you is none of your business ;)
I will still follow you. I don't think anyone should be allowed to make racial comments or insult others. I thought that was not allowed but it seems certain people are allowed.
Is that a younger Micky in Vietnam at the top of the poem? He looks more like a school kid than a soldier.
Keep writing if you can.
You speak with your heart and I can see no wrong in that. True poetry comes from that place and is there to tell a message, your message..... There is much wrong in this world of ours and we should not close our eyes to it, in fact facing up to life is what we are taught from a young age and you remind me of that fact my friend....
Suicide, too many bills, hippies movin' to the hills, people all over the world are shouting end the war......and the band played on. I'm with you brother!! Peace!! Tom
Awesome work as usual Micky, I really enjoy this poem "dont follow me" If you do not mind I would like to save it. This is one of the best poems I have had the pleasure to read. Thank you.
Well you know my take on Vietnam vets, they have a right to be angry with the government. I'll follow you, but not blindly, no one should follow anyone blindly. You also know I question Everything, which is how I think we should be. I enjoyed reading this, no matter what the message.
You ARE the best. Honestly. I've never read it so - succinct. I hope no more of those hubbers anger you or pull your adrenaline strings anymore. This hubpoem is the best I've read in these pages. Honestly. I'm sharing it with my fb friends. I like you! you say the stuff others are brave enough to say and you mean it. If they can really get to you by a few quips here, though, maybe you need to take a vacation (I know I had to, a few times!) Love and peace, Micky
I haven't been very active in hub pages lately, so I'm not quite sure what's going on. I do know that you are one of my favorite hub pages writers, and this is one of your best poems yet!
This is the most beautiful, sincere, honest poem I have ever read. You brought tears to my eyes. I not only choose to follow you, but I am proud to stand beside you!
Mickee,
One of the most poignant calls to activism I've read (and this could go back to the 60's...) If you must go, than go, I will miss you. I hope there is some way you can leave all that you've written behind. Mr. W and some of his followers really have no idea of what it is they are saying, they read (??or have read to them) a book, or two... and then spout off. Their lives are riddled with fear as most conservatives, and chock full of contradiction. You are at least consistent and no one can doubt your integrity.
Thanks for it all,
Mike
Bless you, rmichaelf. It is easy to follow the crowd and be popular, as we learned in elementary school. Standing up to the bullies and now the powers that be is frightening for most. It takes a certain kind of strength that cannot be learned or even felt, to stand up for what is right, no matter the cost. Losing friends, losing money, losing things, losing a following doesn't matter to the fearless and courageous. Do you know how bright a soul shines that is willing to sacrifice it ALL for truth? When I hear truths spoken by a lone ranger that had the courage to not follow, my heart leaps with that heavenly feeling. When I hear the "followers of this world" speak to promote the lies and hate that deep down they know has to be wrong, but are too cowardly or greedy to back down, it brings me back to the hell of this existence that rules. Janis Joplin sang "FREEDOMS JUST ANOTHER WORD FOR NOTHIN LEFT TO LOSE", and for freedom fighters, they know this line all too well. All has been taken, but what did they really get? Wallow in it, dance in it, shower yourself in it, it is all yours but only because we never wanted it! We gave it to them. They will never get my spit.
I liked your message Micki, and I think I understand it.Express yourself the way you feel, because it's your truth.
Keep on leading Mickee, don't let the bastards keep us down. Leadership is an attribute you are born with not something learned in high school. Your voice is growing broader everyday.
The King is dead! Long live the King!
Oh Micky, How could l ever stop following you. ???
l even wrote a poem for you.-...... which is still true.´´Oh Where would l be , without Micky Dee´´´´´´.
l was so happy to see 2 new hubs from you...
You have always written the truth. Why are people against you now? There´s nothing new? You´ve always ´´told it like it is´´´ Your true followers love you for it. l count myself as one true follower, way, way UP the top of the list, please. You´re a wonderful man, Micky, one of the best, to come back from Vietnam with the right attitude to Government and war.
Love you man, as always. x Dim x
Micky I have disagreed with you on very little in this hub world. Though I guess if I agreed with everything you have ever said I would be quite bored with you. You ignored my question BTW. This is not the point however I don't know if you read my comment on another hub, called why I don't write here anymore, or something like this. I don't recall if that is the correct title. if not some one please correct me in case another reader wants to find it. the author is bobbirant if I am not mistaken.
As I said there, this is the reason I never write here any more. They removed my Obama hub but I don't really care it was just an outlet for anger. But This is why I no longer write here. hubpages was a special place I once thought, where special people could meet and talk about ideas that have actual basis in reality. If you recall the situation that drove me to write, American Christians and their High Horse, I learned then that the hub-masters are very one sided and this is a popularity contest much like high school.
Though I will give some credit to Hubpages as I had a magazine editor contact me because of some of my scribbling here, but honestly I can't say 100% sure he read it here as it is published on several sites, and even Freya asked if she could copy it to other sites. So there really is no telling where I got it from.
Also this site has helped me realize that it is not my place to argue for God, and I no longer do this. I say my peace about Him, show the Ayat He has provided and that is all I will say on the topic now. Though I do enjoy a good debate God does not need me to fight His battles unless He specifically asks me to. I learned a lot from you also Micky, if you need to un-follow me or remove me from you list, I would not hold this against you. I respect you very much you are one of the few diamonds in this sea of cubic zirconia, I say this cause most people are fake, and you my dear brother are a lot of things but fake is not one of them.
Americans are blind and complacent they believe with their whole hearts that America's government is right and perfect in all they are and do, and that the US can do no wrong. They ignore all the crimes and kidnappings and murders of our very own citizens. The testing of drugs on civilians and soldiers alike. The children that they had doctors expose to enormous x-rays to test the long term effects of x-ray radiation in high doses. They didn't the parents or get their permission and paid the doctors to keep quiet. America is Hitler's Germany Mark II the only difference is they allow us the guise of freedom and keep the vast majority clueless, stupid, and dumbed down to get away with it. They are not all stupid but they are ignorant and dumb. The evidence is all about them and they just ignore it and say; "Well it wasn't on FOX,CNN, or PMSNBC, ect.ect." Americas have the ridiculous notion that a "free press" means a honest press with no propaganda and government control. Freedom of speech is only free if you say what they though police allow. Look at all these recent riots and the new weapons they deploy on our own citizens. These new sound weapons have long term effect that are very devastating and can take years to show up. It's not illegal to protest, unless you are protesting something they want and need to control us. Like the Fed, this place is ILLEGAL, it states very clearly in the Constitution that a central bank is illegal however what do we have? We could argue days about who is right and who is wrong, our political party system is only there to maintain that illusion I mentioned earlier, they have the same agenda the same goals and the same crimes, they just have different ways to achieve it. Anyways you know all of this and I can go on for weeks and months about this and all I came to say was that I don't post hubs any more because of the NeoconHUBiberals. I do still check my updates and I read hubs from my favorite writers like yourself when I get an email update for writers like yourself. and I will even comment a bit.
But I would also like to say I agree with you and bobbirant 100% on this topic and I will prepare and post a new hub on this very topic to express my disdain for what hubpages has become, I'll try to get it up by this afternoon. Also Micky on a more personal note, any disagreement I have ever had with you, I have never taken personally my friend. I may have misunderstood some of your statements in the past but I have always respected you, and person that has served in the military has my respect until they do something to me personally that is more than minor. Anyways, I will take this time no to say if I have offended you or made you mad and dislike me in any way I am truly sorry and I mean this from my heart my friend. I never had any intentions of doing any such thing if I have. I consider you my brother in many ways, in God, in family, in mind, in spirit, in soul, and in thought. You are one of the good ones Micky if you know more about me you would know this is probably the best comment I could give to another man. Anyways take care my friend, and also please let me know if you mind if I save a copy of this poem? It says a lot more than just about hubpages to me it sung a great song that I really enjoyed it touched my heart and really I was not kidding it is one of the top 5 poems I have ever read, and I'm putting that up there with Rutlard Kipplings "IF"
Take care my brother I know this comment is probably a lot more than you want to read. sorry about that. But you know me when I get started I can't shut up. LOL later man.
I forgot to add my comment on this statement, "James Watkins said that 'accusations of American torture were overly exaggerated'. Another lie"
When I lived in Beaufort South Carolina, I worked for my dad, anyways there was also a retired Marine that worked there. He is one of the most honorable, upstanding, and battle ax of a man I have ever had the pleasure to meet. There are few men like him in this world. Anyways, to my point, and I hope he will forgive me if I make any mistakes however I am sharing what he shared with me.
He was drafted during the Korean War, and he either served 3 tours in Korea and 2 in Vietnam or 2 in Korea and 3 in Vietnam. I guess this information is not so important. He retired as a First Sergeant and in Vietnam he was either a Gunnery or Master Sergeant. He told me quite a funny story however to get to this funny story that even he laughs at, some things had to transpire.
They were returning to their FOB or what ever the Marine calls Forward Operations Base. Anyways they were ambushed and had many casualties, however true to the toughness and resolve of Marines they managed to escape with most of their men and even 2 prisoners. My friend and their CO I think he said was a butter bar, or second lieutenant for you civies, were on the helicopter with the the 2 captured soldiers. And the CO ordered one of the men to hold the lower rank soldier out of the door until the other talked. After a few moments after he did not talk the CO ordered the soldier to throw the man out of the Chopper several hundred feet off the ground, I am not sure of normal or average operating altitude for those birds, anyways the man did throw him out, and grabbed the other one, at this time my friend took action, disarmed the soldiers and officer in the chopper and threatened to shoot the man holding the prisoner if he did not put him back in the chopper. There were 2 or maybe 3 other soldiers in the chopper and 1 other strongly agreed with my friends actions, and together they arrested the two men. This is of course only one example, war will make people do crazy things, however a true man Values all human life no matter the conditions, this was a true sign of his character. He had been through the same and even more than most of those men, and did not forget that even though this man was his enemy, he was still a human after all. Now to the funny part, I think it is deserved after a horrible story.
The man that the CO ordered to throw out the window told his buddies what happened, I am sure some exaggeration was made. However my friend was kind of a hard ass about hard work and physical exercise, so he was already somewhat disliked. Anyways the men decided to get even with him and placed a hand grenade in his desk at the FOB his rank though only a NCO allowed him to have his own room underground with an assistant. Anyways late one night he could not sleep and decided to write a letter home, luckily for him though he noticed the drawer slightly open, shined his flashlight in and noticed the hand grenade. He was able to disarm the trap without arising suspicion from the conspirators. So he detonated the grenade outside of their barracks woke them and pt'ed the hell out of them for a month. I guess its not so funny a story but as I said he laughs at it, and tells the grenade story often, though the Chopper part not so much. He has told me many other stories about such terrible acts as throwing a man our of a helicopter. You don't have to believe me or him, but if you knew the man you would not doubt him.
LOL I think we all can use some new meds. Sometimes it seems this is the only way to escape this terrible place. But I believe that if we teach the children, they hopefully teach theirs and we can maybe get this place back to the way it was when america was founded. You know this of course Presidents used to walk down the street and shake your hands, invite random people over for dinner, accept letters and respond to them personally not via dictation or pre-written auto response. I know for security reasons walking down the street may not be a good idea, but by God they can and do have time to get to know some of the people on a personal level. Have dinner with a few, answer some letters. I understand you couldn't read and respond to each one with a personal message, but have people read them, bring the ones that really stand out to answer, maybe have a face to face with these people go visit them at their house like presidents used to. I would do this if I were president. But you know even with security presidents could still have been poisoned and shot or anything back then also, so maybe security isnt an issue. anyways I am way way off topic here, dont really know how taking new medicine got me here, maybe I do need some.
Americans are asleep at the wheel at least most of them anyways. All my loved ones call me cynical, however I simply think I am honest. They nag me about my political affiliations, my only affiliations politically are to the constitution and to American people and those we effect.
I also believe that I walk too softly Micky, I would be at the front of the line to take America back to its foundation, but alas it would take more than just you and myself. I love this nation, it's beauty, it's people, it's majesty, it is a most wonderful place. But politics and politico's have destroyed it.
I have a passionate hatred for the 'Sheepis Americonis', or the common name 'sheeple'. Seriously Micky it is such a deep hatred it causes me to become physically ill.
I reckon...I'll follow a Viet Nam Marine...and his writings. Say what you got'ta say, Mickey Dee...Every damn day!
Hi Micky,
I lost track of you somewhere along the way until today when I picked up a link that mckbirdbks had posted on his facebook.
I am so glad i followed it and am back on your path again.
You haven't changed ,your writing still powerful and meaningfully brought to life in your freedom of speech.
Never change Micky,or you will then never be THE Micky Dee that I had grown to admire for his beliefs and thought so much of.
There are things that I believe in and will always fight forthese rights.
People say "Let it go,move on!" But I will not let go, and this is my way to move on and not the way that so many others think I should take.
I am so glad to have read your hubs again after so long and here's to so many many more to share Micky my dear friend.
Take care and have a great day.
Eiddwen.
You are so very welcome Micky my friend and here's to so many more to share.
I'm with You Amigo!
We have to be persistent and keep our spirits up because it's up to us. Everything is up to us and anything is possible. I do mean it.
Awesome poem by the way! I loved it. It makes me feel better about not knowing how to write poetry. I leave that for those like you who do a most amazing job at it. Thank you and cheers!
May Wakan Tanka walk with You.
P.S. I look at that photo and I see innocence. I see determination but I also see inexperience. I thank Wakan Tanka for you surviving that war. Now you have experience. We need you.
And this is what happens when I spend too much time away from hub pages!!!. Still trying to figure out what I missed in the poem..??? Does it have to do with government???
I've lost the plot haven't I?
I was viewing it from like a more individual perspective. If I met friends like the ones you depict in your poem, my response would be the same. Okay that said. It was well written with very valid points. Am going now in search of what I missed! Oh and hoping I might solve the mystery!
Love and peace
Hey Micky !
Good comments Eh! 'Specially from Eiddwen !
Keep well,
jandee
Hi Micky,
Fortunate am I to ponder over your beautiful and heartwarming hubs.
Your style of writing is so fresh that it sure will leave some stone UN-turned and people will be forced to look back. Loved it!
Hi Micky,
You might like the recent hub I wrote about Vietnam in the 1960's and my brother's part in it. My other brother also served during the Vietnam war but in the Navy. None of you Vietnam veterans were treated with the respect you deserved. War is hell and always will be!
I think I clicked 'follow' when you were a new hubber and I read one of your first cycling hubs. I hope it is OK with you if I stay as one. Anyway just wanted to say I visited this page and I hope you do feel better soon. I am useless at comments but I do respect the commitment you have for tackling issues.
Hello Micky mate!!,
Hope you are well and happy 'Crimbo' lovely new year to you...
Best from me, jandeexx
I hope you are OK and well, I know you put a lot of time and thought into the pages you have here. I just hope that the real world will treat you well and as fairly as you deserve. Plus I hope the squirrel family have not eaten you out of house and home.
I always enjoy reading your work and always feel totally in awe of you and your achievements. I have been a little out of the the loop recently but am so pleased I managed to find you again. love Acaetnna x
Hello Micky,
Hope you are well. I have now just had Two hubs in a row taken down, well the second never got an airing,no explanation.. Too Anti-Thatcher! too much truth !!
keep well my friend,

Hi Micky, how about a fresh start and concentrate on your fellow hubbers who just want to delight in the written word. There are plenty of us about who prefer creative writing instead of debating politics, religion etc. You have a great sense of humour and a warm heart behind your anger. Having dabbled a little, I have decided to leave politics to the politicians etc. Peace my friend from down under.
