Great Hub, Micky! Like you I don't trust the rich very much. How did they get rich in the first place? Usually by doing someone else down. I know there might be exceptions, but I haven't come across them yet!
As you say, those who are wealthy should use their wealth to improve society, not just make themselves more wealthy. Luckily there are some who do, but I still wonder about their motives - is it a good marketing ploy to send malaria nets to Africa, maybe?

We do have Bill and Melissa Gates and Bono, but I, too, am doing research right now on objectivism which seems to fuel the new "moral" code of the rich. It seems there one rule for the rich and one for the poor. If you are rich then you can buy anything, however vile and corrupt. I had never heard of this pedophile ring but am not really surprised. Certain people think their money and position places them in some special untouchable place.
I also read some scandal about Bush a short while ago but only saw a small article not giving much information.
I think those who have perverted minds do not look on their victims as human. They think they are objects to do their bidding until they have fulfilled their purpose and then disposed of. I think those who commit these foul acts are not human and the only penalty for pedophilia, for example, should only be death. There can be no extenuating circumstances, in my opinion that should spare them.
It is terrible to think that somewhere, at any moment there are children and adults being subjected to unspeakable miseries.
It is when I read or hear about things like this that I really hope there is a God who will punish the wrongdoers.

It is envy and ignorance that breeds this contempt for the rich. There are bad people and good people in all walks of life and in all income brackets. However, capitalism has been a great vehicle to power America into its status in the world. Free markets are the best way to run your economy. THe real problems occur when you give government power to regulate as corruption then sets in. Companies have no power to run our lives. If you dont like the product, then dont buy it. When you give government power, they then can run your life (and ruin it)
I think we have seen in this country what unregulated capitalism has done. Sure it benefeits the "big boys" who know how to play the game but not for hard working middle class Americans.
If you are talking about the recent economic crisis....well, you are wrong. That was not unregulated capitalism. That was government intervention forcing bad loans into the market place. It was government who strong-armed banks and lending institutions into lending to high-risk borrowers for housing for political reasons. These lenders would never have taken that risk unless forced to do so. Then, the markets had to deal with the massive amounts of dollars in risky real estate ventures and thats where the trouble started. There is no evidence that "free markets" or unregulated markets are the problem. The real problems are with government trying to manipulate markets and control them for their political favor.

I can't give you my resume right here. I've put myself in harm's way a lot more than you have and I don't know you. I know the odds though. You try to intimidate. That's just witchcraft.

If left alone, businesses are regulated by the consumer. If the company doesnt satisfy the customer, he will go out of business. The real problems came along when corrupt people in government started getting more power to regulate. It set up a system where companies can pay off govt officials thru political donations and lobbyists, and bypass satisfying the customer.

So- in this spirit of the Golden Rule- I can leave your arguments as they are, erase them, or whatever. Doesn't matter. I don't mean disrespect to you or anyone. If possible I'd like to act as a shock absorber. I'd like to take a hit, the hit, whatever will lead us to adhering to this Golden Rule.
I don't have one single agenda. Not a flipping flopping one. I've lived here 40 years too long already.
I want to serve a benevolent God.
If not - what purpose is there?
In every religion there is the "Golden Rule".
That's God's law.
So- if I have offended anyone unjustly- I am truly sorry.
I intend to keep writing though- pretty much as I have been.
I intend to obey God.
As a matter of fact though- if you and all your friends would- seriously - pray for me to have this burden lifted from me.
I don't think I can ask that. Jesus said to pray the Lord's prayer. So I try to do that.
I'm not going to ask God to lighten my load.
I just want the strength required.
If this "load" is considered a failure here or there, it doesn't matter. It isn't my "load".
I have things to do. At least -I think I do.
Who knows? "Like a thief in the night."
This isn't my choice. I don't get paid for subject matter. As a matter of fact, I'm not sure I've ever made anything here.
But- I'm tired! I live alone. People see me as a cyclist a couple days a week. Other than that - I hardly exist.
You can say that God or life has slapped my ass silly and slapped me right here.
I'm just like everybody else.
I do what I'm told.
The worst of all this might be- you may not like the posters I place with my poetry!
So I'll dedicate this verse,

I'm in total agreement. Yes, there may be exceptions who have amassed fortunes, contributing to the betterment of society with tiny portions. The norm is that those fortunes should perhaps be returned to those whose blood, sweat and lives they demanded and destroyed as they crushed, controlled, abused and manipulated through enslavement for "gain".
Was Jesus carried by slaves to share his message? Did Buddha keep any of his rightful inheritance once choosing a spiritual path? Could Ghandi have freed his people if focused on financial gain?
As amazing as our lack of shock with what we witness these days is that through-out history, "power" became synonomous with greed; "control" with deceptive manipulation; "education" with delusional personal agendas... the list goes on. Do you offer a solution Micky?

Yo SEM Pro! I do think there are enough "basics" that we need to see people with. I think sidewalks that are in gated areas are pretty and should be where the poor are walking in the mud and with cars too. You can go to a lot of cities and see people walking in danger. ETC.
We just need to make the world more livable for more people.
The biggest thing is giving dignity to people.
Here here - offering a solution for others to gain back dignity is also the ultimate fulfillment :) "Do unto others" is a good start - recognizing the leader and love in everyone we meet is to honor them. There are new and current messages/solutions for some of our tougher problems these days as well :)

Wow...this was not as fun as going cycling with you on those beautiful journeys. Glad that you and braudboy have come to some sort of an understanding.
I think that you were both in agreement at the end that there are good and bad people in all levels of society and government for that matter. Power does seem to have a corrupting force unfortunately and successful movies have even been made with that as a theme. No one should be painted with a broad brush or generalization.
If we could gel this all down to the GOLDEN RULE, everybody on this earth would be better off. That I truly believe!

There are very few rich people who have compassion. I have met one rich person with compassion and he seems to be a deep thinker but he never makes it known. If you looked at him outwardly you would not see anything. I had to figure it out myself. This guy helped me way back when I was really losing it and I really appreciate people like this who offer true help (instead of exploiting) when we are in a cess pit! It seems to me that the most valuable people in this world rarely get to see the limelight but if we can recognize them for who they are when they appear, then we will see them in some kind of great kind of glory. I think you are a person who understands these things.
