March 31, April 1, 2, 3, 4, 2010 Bike Rides-Carolina Tarwheels
67Wednesday, March 31, 2010-Crawford Dairy Loop
Cy, Dave, and I rode out out and picked up a friend along the way on New Hope.
The Wednesday Group is coming toward us.
This would be the last picture I took before the rest-stop below. I made the mistake of sprinting to a county line sign. Bruce (recumbent) and "Steady" counter-attacked. I was able to "latch on" behind them but they worked me over pretty good for more than a dozen miles of hills and varied terrain. I had 3 or 4 heart-attacks trying to stay behind them.
Cy and and would split at this rest stop and put in some more miles toward Hillsborough. Cy and I managed to get in over 60 miles on this Wednesday.
Thursday, April 1, 2010-Bass Mountain Loop With Cy
We headed out Dimmicks Mill and Ben Johnson leaving Hillsborough. We took a left on West 10 and stayed on West 10 just past Buckhorn and took a left on Bowman Road.
Things get a little fuzzy for me here. We hit Mebane Oaks Road at some point.
We went to Swepsonville where I missed a couple of shots of a muddy river.
This may be right over the top of Bass Mountain.
Allen House - Circa 1780
Original frontier log dwelling built by Quaker John Allen III. House stood approximately 400 feet southeast. Housed five generations. Moved in 1965 to Alamance Battleground State Historic Site.
We were coming back some on 54 before turning toward Saxapahaw.
Friday, April 2, 2010-Cy and I ride 40.
I guess this seems repetitive but- I love these old buildings, barns, silos.
We rode an "out & back" out to Saxapahaw.
So- yes, I was able to get yet another pic here!
Friday's ride with Cy is 40 miles. We rode a small loop when we got near Saxapahaw.
Saturday
Saturday!?!
My legs hurt too much to ride much today. I didn't try to catch any ride out of Carrboro as I was sure any one of the rides would beat me up. I just strolled out from Hillsborough spinning as much as I could comfortable. Trying to use little pressure but keep the cadence kind of high.
Carrboro Saturday Moring B-Ride
I ran into the B-Ride on "Union Groove". I said the heck with it and turned around and rode with them. I heard the ride leader, Jeff Klee shout for them to wait up as I caught on. He's a great ride leader!
I told everyone that I would probably bail out somewhere. Too many miles.
This is Nicks Road. I love this spot.
So- I shoot quite a few shots hoping that one will come out good.
The scenery is so good that most come out great.
Daniela is purty and strong. Gosh- she's purty strong!
I don't drink really. Once a month now I may treat myself to one dollar Margarita night at Cassa Ibarra. Here I met Lisa and I want to say Ramone. That's not it. I hope they correct me. Anyway He is from France. She is Canadian/American-maybe. They met in French class. They are very delightful. We talked cycling (Paris-Brest-Paris), cycling tattoos (early 1900s posters on my legs), and France. I told Ramone about $1 Margarita night which he enjoyed.
Easter Sunday-Mark's Birthday Ride!
Yes- it was Mark's birthday. Right above is Matt Schumacher, too young!
Mark turned 56 today. So the ride is going to be 56 miles for some of these fellows.
Some other riders are taking advantage of the beautiful weather.
We pick "Ken" up here.
Cy is rolling out. Cy and I put in an extra 22 miles riding to the ride. Cy has an Easter dinner date so he will cut the ride short.
Tito
It's the Hillbros Chapter of the Playtex Cycling Team!
Yep- most of these guys are older than dirt.
Some of them have no visible means of support.
Mark- Birthday Boy!
Approaching Eflland-Cedar Springs Road.
Larry
Brother Dave
Alan
Corbett's Store
Spring Sprang
Happy birthday dear Mark!
Easter Sunday-Mark's Birthday Ride
Today with the extra miles that Cy and I had riding out and the extra mile I rode back home I get 86 miles. It felt like 87 though!
Wednesday was actually 59 miles.
Thursday I netted 75 miles.
Thursday was about 40 miles.
Saturday was 61 miles.
Sunday I managed 86 miles.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 321 miles for the week?
My legs hurt.
I couldn't believe it when Cy called again today.
We only rode 15. I'm tires.
AND- Bob's coming tomorrow to ride Wednesday!

Awesome pics! What a great ride. I am so happy that you take the time to take pictures. They are really beautiful, the scenery is gorgeous.
I am determined to get back on my back this year. Maybe I will actually publish a hub and share some photos along the way.
Thanks for sharing,
Sage
Wow. What a beautiful set of pictures. The scenery makes the ride worth it. Like running. I especially love the picture of spring springing. Here it has been snowing for the last four days. There is nothing but white outside. I love the red bud trees the most. Sadly, they do not grow here.
How does Cy pronounce his name? Like Cy Young? Or like the road in Casper Wyoming, where they say each letter separately. C.Y. Not Cy. It annoys the cowboys if you say Cy (sigh). They are constantly correcting me. Cy.
Micky, ok rest now
You did it but how?
All I can say is wow
Thanks for the ride
and the pictures outside
I appreciate your work, looks like a ton, glad you enjoy cycling so much
You must be in terrific shape
Thank You

Wow!! Awesome! Thanks for sharing, Mickey!!
Wow ..awesome pictures.. Green grass.blue skies and wonderful flowers !!
Here is nice poem to go with that..
Lay down your head
And go to sleep
May you dream
Of gardens sweet
Close your eyes
And dream away
Of God’s gifts
To you this day
The sun that rose upon your head
As you lay within your bed
Green grass, blue skies and waters deep
Of this and more, dream in your sleep.
oh well.. we don't really have to Dream.. Spring is here for us to go out and enjoy !! Cheers !
one more.. YOu rode 15 miles when you are tired ..great.. I ride 15 when I am full of energy :) You are an inspiration !
Mick, glad it was you and not me. Hope you had fun. It would have finished me off. Pretty country, I'd choose the horses.
You must have the stamina of the Everyready Bunny! I'm impressed. Loved the photos. Really pretty country. Especially liked the horses, barns, trees and flowers. Sorry you missed the muddy creek! Must have been a good site for you to have mentioned it. Thanks for the tour.
Hey Mick, I like most the spring flowers, it is beautiful, hehe and the nice countryside plus the enjoyment you had while riding the bike, Take care and rest also, Maita
WOW Micky: Spring is definitely bustin' out all over in your neck of the woods. No wonder you ride, what breathtaking scenery. You rest my friend, peace!

Your tired? I am tired just from looking at pictures of you guys getting tired! Whew! Why worry about eating some snackypoos when you get that much excersize? Loved the photograph of spring has sprung! Beautiful.
You have lots of friends--that is so cool. You get out and enjoy things--I want to go bike riding-rollerblading but not 86 miles..maybe 2 miles..okay maybe like 1/2 miles to the Dairy Queen for a chocolate icecream cone--LARGE ONE..and then maybe somebody could drive me back home...what do you think? hehehehe
Great Hub-nice pictures--boy this must have taken you all day! Good job!
