My First Tattoo

This was my first tattoo. It's a Map of Indochina, or Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. It has the Vietnam campaign ribbon across it. After 60 years of being on planet Earth, I decided to get this one. This tattoo is to let others know that I am not a hippy. Or it lets folks know that I'm not just an ordinary hippy freak. I am a Veteran of Vietnam, Ex-Marine Hippy Freak! I was framed and sentenced to 90 days on the chain gang for something I did not do, nor did I have the intention to do it. The crime that did not happen was "having grains of marijuana in my Prince Albert tobacco.

So this tattoo is for all the bigots who not only judge books by their covers but also want the books to pay homage to them. I'd also like to extend to them the "Hawaiian Good Luck Sign".

This tattoo was done by Tic Toc, of Darkside Images, from Burlington, NC.

My Second Tattoo

My second displays my ribbons from serving my country in the Marine Corps and doing so in Vietnam. The ribbons are not special. The combat ribbon changes into a peace sign. I hope the peace sign over the dove doesn't offend anyone. If so, please accept the "Hawaiian Good Luck Sign" as a token of my affection.

This tattoo was done by Tic Toc, of Darkside Images, from Burlington, NC.

Third Tattoo

My Third Tattoo

This tattoo represents my passion since the Vietnam War, bicycling. Bicycling allows the rider freedom as never before experienced. The rider becomes the engine. The bicycle has taken me to places I would never have gone. Through cycling I have gone to Europe.

This is the finest sport barring none. There is no arena necessary. You can get fit and go shopping at the same time.

This tattoo was done by Tic Toc, of Darkside Images, from Burlington, NC.

New View Of "Pimped" Tats!

My Fourth Tattoo

The Map of Indochina or Vietnam angered a lady that I suppose was from Vietnam. She seemed incensed that I did not know what part of Asia she was from. She does not know what part of Europe I'm from either. I'm not mad at her.

This tattoo was not to anger her. This is to defy bigots who judge me by my hair or clothes. This tattoo of Vietnam is, indeed, against the people who start wars while it signifies that I have served my country.

But because the tattoo was an offense to the lady, I sought to add "humanity" to the tattoo. I even thought of writing "love" in Vietnamese.

I saw the image of a mother holding a baby and knew that this image signifies love and the humanity of the Vietnamese people. I also added a fisherman to anchor the symbolism more.

This was done by Max Million. He's family.

My Fifth Tattoo

This is an eagle's wing and I think it goes with my Marine Corps ribbons, peace sign, and dove.

Sixth Tattoo

This looks like Amelia Ehrhardt in an aviator's uniform. It is a lady in brown.

Tic Toc did this one. I like Toc's shading and experience.

New-Inside Left Leg

It's interesting how tattoos may not work so well as you get older. As I've said, I just started getting tattoos at the ripe age of 60. My skin is old, dry, cracked, and thin. When the skin is old and thin it doesn't have the "meat" or "fat" under the skin especially around the shin. If you look toward the right side of the girl's hat you can see a "break" in the line. The line is thin and that's a weak line for an old person. It's best to have waving or a full tattoo where the skin is thin.

Thanks for sharing the tats. Did a double take at your picture when I learnt you'd been walking Earth for 60 years. I'm 40; think I'm due to start pushing those pedals!

Have a happy Christmas.

Thank you Hotspur for dropping in. Yes, I'm 60. I've been ridden hard and put up wet. My health was in a downward spiral years ago. I started taking supplements such as Spirolina, chlorella, ambrotose, and others. I have most listed at "Food For Fueling". I think LArginine is great for the arteries. Life is a bunch of tricks. I like to share as many as possible. We cannot and will not eat well. We need high octane fuel for dealing with compromised food, air, water, stress, etc. And- cycling is the best exercise. Thanks for stopping in.

I know it's south of here. It may be like Georgia. Once you get past Georgia, you start heading back up north.

Loved the tats MickyDee! If you were my neighbor-we would be good friends! :)

Micky Dee profile image

Micky Dee Hub Author 2 years ago

Oh Ghost Whisper- that seems great. I'm so old though. I'm not sure if I am what I seem. I have ideals and yet feel I'm a fraud. I don't know what I'll be like when I grow up. You are so nice.

Ghost Whisper 77 profile image

Ghost Whisper 77 2 years ago

You make me smile MickyDee-"I'm so old though" is quite ironic. I tell people what my real age is and then I say due to life's long, long path; "but I feel 190 years old." Is that why you say that 'your so old'?

I don't know what I will be when I grow up either-who cares-its the journey-and the destination is beautiful! :)

Micky Dee profile image

Micky Dee Hub Author 2 years ago

The journey is rough and easy, joyful and sad, sometimes ugly but then so beautiful. When we get to that destination, will there be another?

Not sure what to make of tattoos, but at least you are making statements instead of writing something in a language you don't understand!

Although I am one of those people that will reserve my final judgment until after I speak with someone, you have to admit that there is a stigma attached to your hippy look, you can't get too mad at people for being put off (at first).

One of my brothers is working on a pony tail, and I made myself an anklet that on somedays I wear with pride and other days take off because I am not sure what kind of message I'm giving people. Maybe I'll grow out of it. Great hub.

Micky Dee profile image

Micky Dee Hub Author 2 years ago

Thanks Alexander. You're right. I can't get too "put off". I did wait until I was 60 years old. I cannot shave my beard. I cannot cut my hair. Not as of right now. This is a pact I have with God. This is a pact I have with me and humanity. If I am judged by my appearance that is or should not be "my fault". I did not make society to perceive someone's appearance to be negative. The stigma was created by society. Though I'm used to the "wrong" judgment- it is a judgment of prejudice. This is an address on our world that should be made, as well as the reinforcement of "love thy neighbor."

I guess I've chosen a rocky path or the path is laid out before me. It's been a long and tiring trip. My creator has fashioned me more than I have.

You're great to drop by and comment. Thank you and I'll be over your way very soon for some wisdom from your hubs. Thank you very much.

I got that one a week ago. I get a cover up tomorrow. It will be an expansion of the outlines that are there. Thoope bought some wheels I hated so I can afford a tattoo.

Hi Micky, I have to confess I have an 'aversion' to tattoos probably fuelled by a big family row over a tattoo many years ago( not mine). However I think yours have been done by someone who is skilled and is artistic. I can understand the 'statement' side of having them, and yours are not the heavy handed dark ink versions we see here (UK) sometimes. If they make you happy then they are good.

Micky Dee profile image

Micky Dee Hub Author 2 years ago

Hi 2uesday. As I've said, my first was to identify myself to overzealous, and lets' face it, dishonest policemen who will actually "frame" a man for a crime. I may not have explained that fully. Satan masquerades as all sorts of people and professions. Sometimes He fills the role as an honest policeman- sometimes a judge, sometimes a minister. People are people and the Vietnam map and my Marine Corps ribbons were installed as a clear identification to the person who is maybe briefly being inhabited by the Devil Himself- whoever that may be. "Things" are not what they appear to be very often.

The other tattoos are cycling and pretty. I saw a lady just yesterday with four tattoos very colorful and tastefully done. They were remarkable. I've seen many in the last year that I love but maybe too "ladylike" for me though. These on this lady were a bird and flowers on one arm. Flowers on her foot. I can't remember what the others were because I was looking at the more eye catching ones.

Thanks for stopping by. TC

Oh, Miss Take. I am "such-a-card! You sure are nice. I'm so afraid you would be disappointed. I'm an ex-Marine. I race bicycles. I'm a hundred years old- no wait -I'm 60 years old. Sometimes I feel like I'm 61 years old though!

If you don't mind, I want to ask, why have to added so many tatoo? I know soldier have to have tatoo, but why so many?

Micky Dee profile image

Micky Dee Hub Author 23 months ago

Hi Freya. I started out with the Indo-China because people judge me by my hair. They look at me as though I am a lazy hippie. I boldly state that I am not merely a hippie. I am an ex-Marine hippie. So then a lady was mad because she thought I was dissing Vietnam- I couldn't explain it to her. She was Asian. So I then put some asian people around Vietnam and the mother and baby I hope are symbols of love.

The bicycle tattoos are for entertainment for the bicycle riders behind me. And- why not? Life is short. Paint a pretty picture!

I like it when it small and beautiful. but your tatto are so BIG! Even I must admit you chose beautiful pics. :)

Micky Dee profile image

Micky Dee Hub Author 23 months ago

There are many beautiful tattoos today. I see ladies with bright and colorful designs. Mine have this meaning for me and I guess I can't choose the brighter colors much. I wouldn't feel right with a flower of exotic bird on my body. I guess they just have to mean something the person. I saw a very pretty one yesterday on a young lady's leg. It was a picture of the lady's mother.

Great tats, My brother is an Ex-Marine. You have some amazing art on your body. I enjoyed learning more about you. Isn't it odd how easily you were judged and imprisoned for having such a shred of weak evidence. Today with such civility lacking many walk about with more than that in their teeth. What a journey you've traveled. If ever I'm down your way we must get together. We should have a hubbers reunion! Down South no doubt! Love and Peace :)

These are sweet tats; full of meaning (and very well done). Doubt you're going to be regretting any of these like the guy who gets drunk and has Homer Simpson tattooed on his chest. These seem well-plotted, necessary even.

Thank you Doug! I love your statement: "These seem well-plotted, necessary even." I waited until I was 60 years old and yes sir, I think I thought they were/are necessary. Thank you sir!
