On The Road Of Rocks To The School Of Hard Knocks
59
The road is full of holes and rocks.
On the road to the School of Hard Knocks.
I got a masters degree,
From a man I called Simon Legree.
This tyrant could slow time and kill clocks.
I took Greed 101 at the School of Hard Knocks.
So I apprenticed and became a stooge,
For another miser named Ebeneezer Scrooge.
For Christmas he gave the Cratchets rocks.
And I got another degree from the School of Hard Knocks.
No more slaving for tyrants, on my road of rocks.
This way, that way, the tyrant blocks.
The tyrant is adept at delivering shocks.
The textile workers are sewing clothes and socks.
Cooks and bakers are soiling their smocks.
Accountants scrimp and study shares and stocks.
Shepherds watch over their flocks.
Workers work hard and long at the docks.
Children are tugging at Mothers' frocks.
All of humanity are watching their clocks.
Their heads are all on chopping blocks.
All God's people await, hoping God unlocks,
The elevation of humanity,
On the road of Rocks to the School of Hard Knocks.
~Micky Dee~
He's a sage.
He's a learner.
He's a seeker,
And a yearner.
He served in the Royal Navy,
His heart is in the Sea.
Music and travel also have their place,
But he's really for family.
He's a simple man,
Of such complexity.
And he always exudes,
Frivolity with dignity.
He's learned much,
About nutrition.
Since being caught,
In a juxtapostion.
While on top,
Of physiology,
He still gets lost,
In his photography.
But if there's a chance,
To do what he want's to do,
Rich will be out,
On the beautiful Big Blue.

Your kindness and wisdom shine on, giving light to us all here on HubPage, my brotherman! Keep the light shining so we don't lose our way on this road of rocks and holes!
Love and peace
Tony
Hey bud, another fine Hub! You are not only prolific but tremendous here in your words both said and unsaid.
Micky, such an insight you have gained of the solid mercury rocks of Pluto and the embryonic diamonds of Venus during your sojourn of life my friend!
For me, even after the fact, your words say a lot that I can relate to once again, as I yet fumble with the burden of foolishly keeping the occasional flying rocks which beset my scholastic internship of post-graduate studies in the worldwide School of Hard knocks.
Be good my humble and inspired brother; we that can appreciate your style do learn to see a little brighter, and walk a little lighter!
Perhaps we can just hold on to the rocks which have been worked and purified to an acceptable degree, so that they shine and reflect our joy in their perfection, wherever we each may be; could this not be?
Beautiful tribute to Ritch. The Chinese words fascinate, and the poem reveals Micky Dee’s deep-deep thoughts. I love your heart, M.D. I can see no flies on you :)) Take care of yourself, you are special.
Beautiful, as usual MickyD. Love the intermix of languages. Take care.

Micky, I am familiar with that school. I love your writing, so meaningful in a funny way. You always make me laugh when reading your hubs.
Ah Dear Micky! Angels do exist...right here on HP, riding bicycles. Benevolence becomes you. I so love your hubs as I do Rich's. An awesome tribute to a fine writer. Your light reflects in your writing. I truly cannot get enough. Shine on, dear and loved Micky!
FOKK U! That comment was awesome!
Interesting work, Micky Dee. I loved how you put the Mandarin(?) symbols in there, very cool.
Many of us have graduated either sooner or later from that very school. It is hard to get out of this life without a few scrapes and bruises if not worse. Keep shining your light on what is important and what is worthwhile in the long run. Everybody needs a cheerleader now and again. You are that and so much more, Micky!
Cool, Micky - I'm an alumnus from the School of Hard Knocks myself...lifetime member! ha ha
Love your precision, every word leads me to the next.
Like your style!
Many Blessings,
Kim
Brother - What can I say?
This poem made my day!
Now I feel I can fly away!
and be happy until May!
(Month of my birthday)
God bless you Micky!
Hubber Brother Ritchie
It would be nice if each segment of poetry were in direct correlation to the Chinese character you listed. If so I missed the connection. Sorry. The format was beautiful though.
ah, no doubt about it. Reaching to one's roots for beauty is a valid and worthy thing. The point I was making was from a poets stand point, making all aspects of the poem work together to express a joint theme and message. The concept being that the poem would be a little cooler if the Chinese characters actually matched up with the message of each stanza along the way.
Peace my friend, lol I didn't mean to frustrate you and my critique wasn't meant to anger you. I appreciate that you spend a lot of time on all of your hubs. The whole concept of you adding pictures to this hub never crossed my mind. I almost feel like you missed the point of my comment though as to this I would have to say it was my fault. I only meant changing which characters in Chinese that you feature to those relevant to each stanza you present. I didn't realize that that would take more energy then you have, I too live in a world where exhaustion constantly haunts me. I don't make anything on my work either. I enjoy your work and wouldn't have commented otherwise. I didn't realize that the only point in this work was to make an homage to an individual. Curse my good eye. Disregard my comment if you like and I am sorry you had to spend all that energy in replying.
Thanks for beautiful verses. I couldn't help thinking of the musical with red-headed Annie and her orphan side-kicks singing: It's the hard-knock life for us . . .
Awesome, Rich is awesome, thanks for the great poem it is wonderful and makes think more deeply about Rich, you provoke much thought in my lil ole head... :) Katie
profound and nicely done, love the sense of humor in the poems...
one love Micky Dee
If you have a breath in you and have reached adulthood you attended the school of hard knocks. Excellent poem. Peace to you and ride on.
Hey Mic- I had an Uncle Mic who died of black lung in the English coal mines. I'm still close with his daughter my cousin Patricia. There was always coal to heat the home when he was alive but he died young and then coal was hard to come by for the family left with chilled bones. We take too much for granted and so do those who profit by the labor of others. This is a great poem and brought Uncle Mic to mind. thank you.
Oh You are Lucky that you had a seat to ride on Sir Micky! At my school of hard knocks, we lessened the pain, with our socks! I watch a solo cat walk through the streets of BT and there isn't even a mouse to chase... times are tough and that's good enough reason not to wear a watch!
Thanks for sharing this mate... hope it's not too cold there.. spring is on the way..take care.
YES! YES! MICKEY DEE.. LOVE IT.THAT'S MY BOY!!!RICHTW SO COOL...:):) I LOVE THE TITTLE:):) PERFECT AND GREAT GREAT TRIBUTE AND HUB..WE MOVE FORWARD! YEAH!
