Shadrach, Meshach, And Abednego-Soul Food!

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego
Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
Were from Jewish nobility don’t you know?
They were brought to Babylon for training.
During King Nebuchadnezzar’s reigning.
Daniel had their training set apart,
Because of the training of the heart.
Water and veggies are what they chose to eat.
They never had wine and they never ate meat.
Their bodies they would not defile.
The guards gave them a ten day trial.
It was a test against those who ate of the food and drink,
Against these four who didn’t. Now what do you think?
The four appeared better, healthier, a lot better fed.
They were stronger because of the lives they led.
Those four young Jews won that ten day test.
They proved to be better than all the rest.
They were tested again when all the training ended.
Their diets were better as they had contended.
Then Nebuchadnezzar made an idol, ninety feet tall.
He made a decree that it would be worshiped, by all.
All would drop to their knees when instruments played.
But these Jews already had a God to whom they prayed.
Refusal was punished by a furnace of fire.
The “Three Young Men” said, but not with ire,
“God will save us but if not, let it be told
We still won’t worship your image of gold.”
Neb said, “Heat the furnace seven times more.
Let’s fry these guys and there won’t be an encore.
Throw them in the fire after you tie up these men.”
But the only men who died were the soldiers that threw them in.
Nebuchadnezzar said, as he sat in his royal chair,
“Four men not three are now walking around in there.”
Neb now said, “I’ve got another law and let it now begin;
Let no one speak one word against the God of these brave men."
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego drank no wine.
They ate no meat and yet they did really fine.
Behold, they were bold, and their souls would not be sold.
They would not bow down to a God made of gold.
Only recently (historically speaking) did we begin eating meat. The inclusion of meat in our diet came well after we became who we are. The birth of agriculture started about 10,000 years ago. At that time it became considerably more convenient to herd animals. This is not nearly as long as the time that fashioned our basic biochemical functionality, which was at least tens of millions of years. Our basic functionality depends on the nutrient composition of plant-based foods.
The Garden of Eden
Genesis Chapter 1
29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every
herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every
tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall
be for meat.
30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every
fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there
is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
There were no carnivores in the Garden of Eden.
Noah
Genesis 9
3
Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have
I given you all things.
4 But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood
thereof, shall ye not eat.
In this scripture God changed his mind (?).
Meat is permitted to eat but you need to cook it.
Shadrach, Meshach, And Abednego
The Bible is the True word of God? We were created as vegetarians.
Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy---and were written by Moses. The books of Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel follow.
I don't know the time span here but there were many, many moons between the Garden of Eden and Daniel.
Our Creator did not design us to eat meat. The carnivores with sharp teeth, lions tigers, bears, dogs and cats are meat eaters. The bowels of humans are very different from carnivores. They contain curved pouches with long twists and turns. Carnivores have smooth, straight bowels. When true carnivores eat meat, there is a very quick digestion. In humans these pieces of meat get caught up in our intestinal pockets and remain there undigested. Meat contains absolutely no fiber! Fiber is the "broom" that sweeps your intestines. Once undigested meat sits in your colon at 98.6 degrees, it putrefies and becomes uric acid. This uric acid causes arthritis! This is the main contributing factor to colon cancer! Colon cancer kills 35% of Americans a year. The number one cause of colon cancer is eating red meat! The United States has the highest incident of colon cancer. We also eat more meat than any other nation out there.
So, is the answer to eat more chicken? The chicken breeders have just one goal and that is to produce the heaviest chicken possible in the quickest amount of time.
The Lord's Prayer In Greek
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, which art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;thy will be done,
in earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
When I pray this prayer, I know I want this earth to resemble what I think heaven is.
The Worst Abuses In Factory Farming
- The worst abuses in factory farming
Abuses around and in factory farming listed
In "my" heaven. I don't want these factory farms growing my food.
Factory farming is the practice of raising livestock in confinement at high stocking density, where a farm operates as a factory — a practice typical in industrial farming by agribusinesses. The main product of this industry is meat, milk, and eggs for human consumption.
The UN and OIE estimate that in coming decades there will be billions of additional consumers in developing countries eating meat factory farmed in developing countries, but currently only about 40 out of the around 200 countries in the world have the capacity to adequately respond to a health crisis originating from animal disease (such as swine flu, avian flu, West Nile virus, blue tongue, and-hoof-and-mouth disease). Widespread use of antibiotics increases the chance of a pandemic resistant to known measures, which is exacerbated by a globally distributed food system. Decreased genetic diversity increases the chance of a food crisis.
This also is the ideal environment for worms and parasites. There are over 300 varieties that can live in the human body. Worldwide, worms outrank cancer as our deadliest enemy. It has been estimated that 150 million people in America have intestinal parasite infestation. Medical textbooks have revealed that over 55 million American children have worms. Parasite infestation is growing rapidly, due to a lack of raw fruits and vegetables in the diet and an increased consumption of cooked and acid-forming foods, i.e., processed foods of all kinds, refined sugars, meat, dairy, poultry and coffee. Once in the intestinal tract, parasites have easy access to other parts of the body where they bring on various symptoms and diseases.

I am vegetarian except for some dairy and fish. I'd like to "evolve" from this as well. I'm far from perfect as anyone can see. I will kill mice if they consistently come into my house. I don't eat them though.
Our "canine" teeth will be exploited as evidence that we are carnivores. Ours are not as large and as sharp as true carnivores. Human teeth are great for chewing into a pine-apple, sugar cane, or many other fruits and veggies. To base our diet on the shape of our teeth is folly.
Old habits die hard, and it’s convenient for people who like to eat meat, think that there is evidence to support their belief that eating meat is “natural” or the cause of our evolution.
Top nutritional and anthropological scientists from the most reputable institutions imaginable say categorically that humans are natural herbivores, and that we will be healthier today if we stick with our herbivorous roots. It may be inconvenient, but it is true.
This hub could go on quite a bit. The best reasons for stopping factory farms as many are today is the abuse related to growing these animals.
Just do a search for "chicken farms", "chicken farms-animal abuse", "factory farms", etc. You will be appalled.

Thank you for the soul food hub, I appreciatetd it and I always get joyful when I read about Shadrach, Meshach, bednego and Jesus in the firey furnace.godspeed. creativeone59
Hi Micky.! Not sure which I liked best. Yhe hub, or your elongated answer. Both very interesting and true. You brought up some seriously good points about animal farming.I hate the thought of cruelty.
As for the bible, I always assumed that when Noah and co. came out of the ark the ground would be too sodden for anything to grow for a whils , so God told them they could eat meat. There are still many scriptures where God condemned cruelty to animals, and mentions allowing the animals to rest . I need to look them up but I KNOW I've read such verses in the bible.
Your way of telling the story of Shadrch Meshach and Abednigo was 2nd to none (except the bible). Brilliant.!
Love your work, man. See you again soon, Dim x
Mick, I read it all, enjoyed it all with a smile. Your into the best you see fit to eat, so we're different only in the subject, I eat no mass hormone raised chickens or any other chemical fed meat I do the best I can do with what I got, it's hard to raise vegetables where I live. I salute you in your convictions and I'm no different than you, I'm ready to leave this place I've had quite enough. Love and peace
Mick, all we need is a Cadillac convertible or some such, I'm sure a maker would donate one for the event. We could sell tickets to the grand stands on both sides of the canyon that we declare we will jump, then donate the profits to the best charity we agree on. Then tack weld some wings on the car and build two ramps, one to jump from and one to land on. Dang we could do a Thelma and Louise, the worst that could happen is we actually make it. I insist on driving 'cuz I'm afraid you'd get us killed! haha hehe to the funny farm for me!
Hi, I've read it and I agree with much of what you have said here. I am a 'hypocritical' in that I can cook chicken but could never kill one. I cook for vegetarian and for meat eaters. Once I saw on TV here the awful lives of caged hens I buy free range hens eggs. As I write this I think this comment makes me seem confused.
I think meat must be considered a risk factor for some cancers as it is mentioned in the dietery section of some cancer web sites as one of the things that can increase the risk, especially red meat and processed meats such as ham.
Lots of work has gone into this hub, thank you Micky.
Read it and LOVED it. Your hubs are always so imaginative and very creative. I could go for some 'soul food' right now!
Micky, a splendid rendition of the Fiery Furnace story, you're a true poet!
As for meat, well after the fall we got given meat to remind us of one thing, we needed the blood sacrifice that happens when we kill an animal for food.
Dusty is right on target, for he kills to eat and eats what he kills. I have to put up with the food I can buy locally, which is no way as good as home killed and cooked, but then I rarely eat any red meat, and latterly with finances being tighter, beans and pulses with vegetables are forming a larger part of our diet.
I could do with loosing 50lb so maybe I will do a 'Daniel' fast for 40 days, and break the meat habit.
A good hub Micky, thank you kindly...
John
hi Mick, I am amazed by the vastness of your knowledge and for creating ballad like this one,
it is good to know and read Shadrach, Meshach, And Abednego-- no wine and no meat wow, they lived simply in short.....
I am both a herbivore and a carnivore, but I prefer veggies more, Thank you Micky, and always you have a great writing style combining poetry and text plus analysis, I am forever ___ FAN, Maita
Micky Dee - two punch hub..I love it. Great Biblical History (and reminder), great health advise and it all relates right back to the good book. Thumbs up Mickey Dee. I'm bookmarking this one.
Great "food" for thought Micky. I guess my hankering for prime rib goes back to God shorting we menfolk by one. =:) Love the hub.
Thank you for sending me tip about your Hub, it is really great to read it.
In "my" heaven. I don't want these factory farms growing my food. Cannot agree more with you. I do not want them neither.
Be blessed!
I don't have to face the moral dilemma about eating meat or not. From birth I have been allergic to meat, my body treats it just like food poisoning. My Auntie is the same, so it's genetic related. It makes it difficult when eating out as you never know if the restaurants have used the same utensils and grills to cook meat with.
When people ask "Why are you a vegetarian, Is it because you love animals?"
I reply "No, I just really hate vegetables!"
I think often of those three, Shadrach, Meshach, And Abednego--and whenever I open my wood stove after about four days of being fired up with hardwoods. The heat emanating from that gaping, coal filled maw, has burned the hair off of my arms, and even my nostril hairs at times, I can't imagine being in such heat and retaining my faith. As for no meat nor wine, I would simply be ready to test a walk in an oven, for the lack of two of my favorite things in my daily consumption. I enjoyed this ~~~MFB III
Thanks for all the info, Michael, especially the video. I must give my opinion on the eating of meat. Having stopped overnight the eating of it back in 1971, I immediately had great health improvements. No more headaches, no sinus trouble. I began to eat living foods, sprouts (THAT is what Daniel ate, pulse which is sprouted lentils I've been told)and all natural foods. Ideal diets are not for everyone. Seek and ye shall find. Some folks just don't want to hear the truth and that is their path. God has provided the knowledge and truth about how food choices affect our bodies and minds. Some will, some won't. I do eat a little Alaskan salmon every now and then because I have a concern for B-12. It's too important to take a risk. Supplements of this are controversial, so I don't use them. If Dusty is not big on veggies, he should gather wild greens from the woods(learn to identify the good ones) and blend them into a fruit smoothie. Too important to not get the good they offer. If meat is eaten, it should be grass-fed and eaten in small amounts. I could say alot about this but maybe I'll do a hub sometime. Today's humans are missing some vital elements that make a big difference in health and it's my mission to find them in our foods.
I still eat meat, not a lot. Lately my body has been telling me to stop. I love your answers to the posts. Thank you.
Excellent hub. Hope you don't mind if I link it to my Daniel, God Diet one.
Hi Mick, I link this to my hub, you cant say NO, Vegab hub, Maita
Hi Mick, thank you, Maita
Micky Dee, i am at present overwhelmed by this hub. My heart is breaking after watching the video. My husband and i have been dairy farmers for 38 years and in all that time our animals were important to us as they were our lively hood. But more than that they are intelligent, smart living creatures who feel pain just as we do and were treated accordingly We also ran some pigs, sheep poultry and horses.I am ashamed to be associated with anybody who can treat Gods creatures in such a heinous way. I don't know how they can sleep at night but i do know that God will not let them go unpunished for their cruelty.
I am a born again Christian and i do eat meat but our animals roam free and are killed humanely.I can't comprehend anyone behaving like this to another living creature.
Then i suppose mankind was treated in the same manner by such Tyrants as Hitler, Edi Amin and Pol Potts to name just a few. It makes me feel better to know that these vile people will themselves be thrown into the lake of fire where they will burn eternally in hell. They will not have the protection of God like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednigo but the full power His full wrath. I thank you for having the courage to stand for what you believe in and like yourself sick of living in a filthy corrupt world. I'm bound for Gloryland.
My lord, i feel like iv,e been to my Gram'ma,s Pentecostal church and singing i,ll fly away ole Glory.
I sure do hate to give up Turkey, that,s about all the meat i eat. I buy vegie burgers and they are really good
This hub is really good, you put your heart and soul in it, a whole bunch of bible scripture.
God Speed
Nice one, very good story indeed.
About the statement that It does say animals were put here for our use, true but anbody may read it as they please. To think that there are people who think that simply means we can cage them, inflict anything we desire to them and use them for "better good" meaning our own gain.
Sure it may mean you can eat them but it does not really say that does it?
May it simply mean that we can: ride them, use their wool, get dairy products from them, use them as aid in our labour but always respecting their being?
Mind you, i do not expect people who consider themselves hunters not to eat them, but i would expect from them no waste nor torture of the animal that is feeding them.
thanks.
I did not want to watch that video because I cannot stand seeing cruelty to animals. I think that the Indians and Eskimos and people like them had it right. If they killed a buffalo or a whale...every single part of that body was used for something. Killing just for sport (another subject, I realize) is horrendous.
Thank you, my brotherman! I really can't handle the factory farming thing either. On the other hand, in a country where there are so many poor people as South Africa the availability of cheap chicken is all that keeps many of them alive. I don't like it, I think it is horrible, but I have to acknowledge it. I have thought long and hard about this issue and certainly won't eat store-bought meat any more. For health and humanitarian reasons.
Anyway you have stirred my conscience again, dear brother! Thank you and I hope that many people read this and start thinking again about how the meat they eat arrives on their tables, and what it has in it.
Love and peace
Tony
So many messages in your writings. I am an animal lover, but I do eat meat. I know it is not right, but, I don't like to think about the cows and chickens, etc. If I had them as pets, I know I would turn vegetarian, because about 14 years ago, we adopted the school ducks, because they could live by our pond. We had 4 ducks that became our pets for a while and we will never eat duck again.
God didn't change his mind later. It may look that way in gen but it's just the stilted way it was communicated. Hear it in Hebrew read from a torah and it sounds much better. And when the laws were written they were written to separate te Jews from the rest of the world. God didn't change his mind. He simply said "if you are to follow me and be my children then you must treat your bodies such an feed it in such a manner.
In your statement about basing your diet on the shape of your teeth, you emeadiatly (s) follow up on the "diet" our teeth were "ment" for. Gen 1:29-30 if read together and the shape of our teeth says that we are omnivores. Otherwise your saying that Jesus himself who if you believe in the bible was without sin was wrong. And in doing so you just discredited the entire new testament.

Mick, that argument may last for years but I'll never take part. I eat meat that is free range Elk and Deer, rabbits and chickens from right here. I don't like my vegies to eat at all unless taters and beans are causing my fall. I believe the Bible says the animal was put here for mans use, but I can't tell you where, it holds descriptions of animals and fish that are kosher to consume, I'd have to look them up to tell them to you, just request it and a search I will do.
