Squirrel Nut Zipping!
I usually have all photos in the frequency that they were taken. For this hub I need to start at "lunch" after the ride. I've never told anyone that I "was a fan". I think the term often lowers the person saying this. And- who knows celebs? After all they are just people.
But - I was already endeared to the lady's entertainment prowess. I was now being served by her and graciously. "This" endeared her to me more!
Katharine Whalen of the Squirrel Nut Zippers is charming! And- what an entertainer!
Squirrel Nut Zippers "Put A Lid On It"
The Squirrel Nut Zippers were formed in 1993 in Chapel Hill and/or Carrboro, North Carolina. "Jimbo" Mathus (vocals and guitar) and his then wife Katharine Whalen (vocals, banjo, and ukulele) were the founders. Other early members were James Chris Phillips, Don Raleigh, and Ken Mosher.
"Jimbo" Mathus says, "Nut Zippers," is a southern term for a variety of old bootleg moonshine, and the band's name comes from a newspaper account which related the story of a highly intoxicated man who climbed a tree one night, refusing to come down even after authorities arrived. The article's headline read: "Squirrel Nut Zipper." It is also the name of a candy dating back to 1890.
The group can be described as a “retro-swing ensemble”.
The band is an eclectic fusion of Delta blues, gypsy jazz, 1930s-era swing. They are truly unique!
The band was founded by James "Jimbo" Mathus, formerly of Metalflake Mother and Johnny Vomit & The Dry Heaves, and his then-wife Katharine Whalen in Carrboro, North Carolina along with Chris Phillips, Don Raleigh and Ken Mosher. The group made its debut in Chapel Hill a few months later. Stacy Guess (formerly of Pressure Boys) joined shortly after.

Chris, Jose, and I meet at the Gulf Rim for great food. We are initially outside but the heat causes some spontaneous combustion in my beard and after putting the fire out we move inside where that, "hot air" box takes all the hot air and dumps it outside.
See Jose smiling through the window? He's smiling because he's not frying from the heat and because he's laughing at my inability to pass at taking another picture.
Chris had been a donor of some yogurt culture from another country, the old country, another planet or something. Ms. Whalen was an indirect recipient of this yogurt. Small world eh!

Hi Darlene! The guy lying back in that recumbent is Bruce. He isn't so disabled although he has neck and/or back issues. I do as well Darlene. I have pain in my neck running through my arms. Back pain from top to bottom. Pain in the hips. Arthritis. Bruce said he would let me try one of his recumbent bikes but I'm too old for new tricks. I have pain in bed, sitting, walking, and on the bike. It's still a matter of doing what we want or feel like we need to do. Thank you Darlene!

Oh Akirchner! I would seem so. But actually apart from riding my bike I live a monk's existence. I've had monks and priests tell me they couldn't live a secluded and barren life that I do.

Another awesome ride, love the journey and the music, never should take a picture of the sweets, I almost went through my computer screen. What is that one guy disabled with laying back riding on his bike? What a get up and you all look like you are have such fun, and seeing the country we live in so close up and personal, fantastic. rate up and the above, a fan
