The King Of The Mountain
58
The old man was the king of a holler.
He rose up from a little more than squalor.
Still he was simple, and loved the simple things.
Love flowed out of his mountain springs.
There were pastures and forests and streams.
How could anyone dream these dreams?
Rhododendron, Mountain Laurel, White Oak.
This was a Kingdom for these kind and simple folk.
A tiny road came in as a tiny stream was leaving.
It was too beautiful a paradise to be believing.
It was like a hole in a beautiful mountain,
Complete with its own flowing fountain.
The old man gave life all his best,
And after he was laid to rest,
He saw from where he now lay,
All he had gathered, erode away.
The land was inherited by the son,
Thought to be the responsible one.
Who sold it and bought a patch of land,
Near a beach with people and sand.
The farm was traded for a bag of beans.
It now belongs to a lawyer in New Orleans.
The son traded paradise and a million dollar view,
For an 8 hour drive, traffic, tourists, noise, a zoo.
The old man was always “King of his Hill.
He blew it all when he made his last will.
His Kingdom came undone,
when he neglected all his children but one.

Get Down On Your Knees And Pray-Del McCoury
Born in York County, PA seventy years ago, Del McCoury would once have seemed an unlikely candidate for legendary status. Bitten hard by the bluegrass bug when he heard Earl Scruggs' banjo in the early 50s-"everybody else was crazy about Elvis, but I loved Earl," he says with a chuckle. McCoury became a banjo picker.
My Walkin Shoes-Del McCoury and Vince Gill
Del McCoury's family lived in Mitchell County, North Carolina for a bit. I guess his family moved right before Del was born. So Loafers Glory stakes a small claim. But Del is America!

The videos you got there are ... I am speechless. that last one was the most perfect you ending the videos for this hub in perfection '-
I have never heard of Del until now, but his music is fantastic - I always loved country music - "The king of the road" is great, and I liked the "walking shoes" as well.
The one I liked the best is "The mountain", so sad, so beautiful, so moving especially because brings to mind the Chile recent events. Thank you Micky
Good night Michael :D Hug :D
Some people just never respected their parents memories. They said they lived to their fullest but forget to enjoy every single time of it. I love zoo, but hate traffic and tourists. I will be really appreciate if I have a place for solitude in the moment like this, mostly if the people we love being there with us. :)
Good night, King Micky. Your kingdom save under my guard. :D
Hello again my dear Micky Dee, I hope you can have one eye open to protect my kingdom as well, you are my prince, love darski awesome hub
KIng Micky, I am watching your chicken strut right now! :D
Another killer effort brother. Says a lot for the progress of man (what ever that means). Man, about 5 years ago I got to see Del, Steve and Vince at an event here called Tall Stacks. Love all 3. Peace!! Tom
You go Micky, you have done it again. Than you for a wonderful work of art. Thank you for sharing. Godspeed. creativeone59
Hahaha! Love it! More! More!
No way! I never even have gut to dance because I am like robot, so why I should stop you? More! More! :D
Hahaha! Prove it then. Sing for me! Maybe I will know after hear you sing, what should I do with the Crownless King. ^_*
Hahaha! Ok. Enough for teasing King Micky for today. But still; more! more!
Don't worry, King Micky. I will always come back to you later. Hohohoho!
There is a moral in there somewhere. I'll be damned if I can find it tho'.
Brilliant again our Micky.
I was going to comment in verse and rhyme
but someone rang the doorbell at that very wrong time
Oh no, Go away , leave me alone I could not yell
So only these words to say: You have again done so well.
I have never heard of Del McCoury but that certainly didn't stop me from enjoying his music. Brilliant!!
I am giving a beautiful and a vote up!!
Take care and God Bless Micky.
Micky Dee, really enjoyed the bluegrass videos, even though I had never heard of any of the performers. Also loved the hub itself. We definately lose control after we die, but who really cares since we aren't there to see it. (:v And if we can look down from above, we probably laugh.
Mic., another article that shows you in heart and soul, I danced to the music across the up buttons, It's a good work of your pen here and I often wonder about getting a pin ans spiral binder and write while setting in the shade of my largest Mesquite tree. I often have some great thoughts there but my old memory won't bring them in here at all. I say I'll write but by the time I'm done laying out in the sun and come in the memories are mostly lost. I'm back in because the rain that is coming tomorrow is here today. So it's going to be a couple of cool days to get out and play with the dogs in the mud and then drive to town for a ride through the 5 dollar car wash with the top off the jeep. It stings a bit with the jet nozzles and the dogs hate it but get ready to be blasted and taught me to face down as the machine goes through it's cycle. The 100 mph blower is a trip as it goes over to dry off the water before the spot free rinse cycle at low pressure goes by. Anyway it's fun to cool off there on hot days and to get the mud off on super dirty days and it entertains people who watch the machine follow the roll cage shaped and soap us up for the rinse. I need to find the ends of the cables to lubricate then next, but will probably wait until I have to change them as a big time procrastinator that I've become setting out here with no one to complain to get things done instead of me playing here on the computer. Oh well, good job on an entertaining hub, dusty
Another great story and it rings a bell. The good son left to make his own, while the not-so-good is left everything and squanders it all away.I,m not crazy about bluegrass music, but i love Vince Gill, and i love your skill of rhyme.
God Bless
I was going to say Micky, that you would surely be king of the hill once you rode your bike up there!
Oh Micky Dee this makes me sad
it's greatly done and I'm glad
but to see how wrong a son can be
rips at the very heart of me.
The pictures show a paradise
no doubt the son was not wise
But the king will forever live
because from the heart he did give.
..you are the king of my mountain - and by the looks of it - I now count over 4 million dedicated and lucky followers - you are the king of everyone's mountain .....
no one puts together a hub like you - they're full of joy and the essence of life - Sir Dee I don't offer use the 'g' word but you are a genius hubber - and we all know about the other half of that equation - a genius humanitarian!!!!
Absolutely love this. Thank you so much for writing and sharing. Good message here.
I've never really enjoyed bluegrass but ya know - you changed my mind! The videos are really great - and the pictures divine....great poem too!
I am starting to like bluegrass, it is getting better, and no doubt about Vince Gill, forever my love.
Congradulations on your one year Hub Birthday :D hugs :D
x3 Love You x3
Mr. Dee,
What a great piece of prose, I give you 5 stars for working in “Rhododendron,” that is a feat of its own. It took me longer to move through the mountain of accolades piled upon your stoop.
God Bless.
What a great tribute and some great music. The story of the King of the Mountain is also very moving - so well done, my brother!
Love and peace
Tony
Yo King!
Your combination of prose and your beautiful pictures always amaze me. I was reading all the comments while the first video played. Will have to check out the others... Sometimes people do not realize what they have in their own backyards until they lose it. The grass is not always greener....! Now...going to attend to some button pushing!
When one does not know from whence it came, there is little appreciation of it and little caring as to letting it go. It is afterward that they look back and realize all they threw asunder. Nice one, Micky! WB
I missed this one for some reason. I live on a mountain that a shal company wants to come and strip mine it for shale to make bricks. I thinkit is more for the oil in the shale that they are after and not brick making. We are in a big fight with them and the WVDEP for the right to have our mountain to stay the way it is, beautiful and full of life and water. It brought tears to my eyes with the Last song, "The Mountain". I have several hubs that touch on this subject of mining.
My Aunt and Ucnle are into Bluegrass and have a band. I don't know what it is or where they play but they live in the Mountains near the boarder of Maryland and PA.
My grand father and some of my ancestors were miners in the Console Mines in Maryland. It makes me sick to think of all the beautiful and life giving mountains that are destroyed and are going to be destroyed for something that we have other resources available.
Thanks you for you poem and the videos.
I just sent you a PM with the hubs.
Tradin' a piece of paradise in for a few moments at the beach...doesn't make sense unless it comes in an all inclusive vacation package with drinks, meals, and a free snorkeling trip...then it becomes a little more clear. Unfortunately...I can relate to this one. It is sad to see anyone give up on the ol' place of our own greatest personal dreams. Great one, MD!
Amazing just amazing both your written art and the message or true life reality of it! So many people love and adore their treasures leaving them only to someone who has no regard for them and selling to the highest bid. I know we are not to be so fond of material things so does it matter how the man would feel about his beloved land turning into a mega super high tech mall of sorts... or does it just not matter as he is gone. Ponder I do I do!
Thanks for the great videos at the end, you unburied some real treasures. Voted up and all that is good!
Peace and Love,
"The artist has one function--to affirm and glorify life" - W. Edward Brown. You Sir Micky Dee fit this description to a tee? Lord I rhymed!!! Peace bro!!!
Your form may not be anything I am in a hurry to emulate but the hard work that may not seem like work to you any more which showed your dedication to your message is something that makes me feel a little bit lazy about how I go about making hubs. It is very well put together and I can respect that.
Good morning, My uncle. Sorry, I am late to knew this hub. Because I have a lot of work to do. Especially to prepare my students test. I love the beauty of mountain you describe above. All the pictures you gave to us really touch my heart. I love all these song. Good work, my uncle. I hope I can write something new as soon as possible after I finish my work. Take care!
Your nephew, Prasetio
